Introductions and Instructions: Welcome!

For our discussion/class interaction part of this class, we're going with a blog for that "beyond the textbook" interaction. Your participation on this blog will be part of your grade.

I'd REALLY like the blog simply to be posting pictures and commentary about the different places that each of you choose to go for your FIELD MISSIONS. Hopefully you can use your classmates for ideas and see/learn about places that you didn't even know about.

I am emailing EACH of you an invitation to be a blog author. You will need to have a gmail account (i think) to be able to post to the blog, but it's an easy process.

So, I have my mugshot and info about me under the Instructor link here on the site...I wanna know about you folks! Please reply to this post with a photo (if you like---no pressure) and some info about yourself. Where are you from? Why are you taking this course? ...Oh yeah, and what's your favorite movie?

  1. Not sure how to post a photo in the reply, but you should be able to get some info from my profile pick over to the right. Looking forward to the semester, and those field missions.

    1. Hello everyone, I would have to say that my favorite movie is National Treasure or The Postman. I am taking this course because I'm a Forestry major and I would rather take this class online rather than in the summer for a short amount of time. I feel like I will get more out of it this way. I am from Sylva,NC and I have lived there the majority of my life. I have a wonderful husband and a 9month old baby boy named Harley.

  2. Greetings from Harnett County, the Vacation Capital of North Carolina, we actually have hills here that will make you climb a breath-taking 300' above sea level. One of my favorite moves is "the Edge" but "Airplane and the "Naked Gun" series will always have a warm spot.

  4. Hello to all members of this blog. My name is Chip Lance and I am entering my second semester of the online certificate program, as I had to take a semester off to attempt to learn the ropes with our now 9 month old baby girl. I have several favorite movies, including; Jeremiah Johnson, A River Runs Through It (also a favorite book) and No Country for Old Men. I'm sure my screenings will include more Disney and cartoonish films in the rapidly nearing future!

  7. Hello everyone, my name is Dallas Crisp and contrary to popular belief I am not from Texas. My hometown is Franklin, NC but I consider the mountains of Western North Carolina my home. I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2010 with a BS in Building Science (concentration Construction Management) with two minors, one in Business and the other in Appropriate Technology (which is basically renewable energy). The current woes of the construction industry allowed me to experience a cut-throat industry that has left a bad taste in my mouth. Now I have set my sights on a different passion and hope to utilize my past knowledge and education in the forest. I would have to say that I have several favorite movies, but the common thread through them all is my favorite actor Denzel Washington. Man on Fire, Training Day, Deja vu, and The Book of Eli are at the top of my list. I can't wait for his newest the "Safe House" to come out this year.
